Build An Electric Car Yourself Do It The Easy Way

The Easy Way To Build Your Own Electric Car

electric_car8You've decided to learn about electric car conversion, and why not?  With the continuous increase of gas prices and the threat of global warming due to fossil fuel emmissions, it's only right that we look for gas alternatives.  It's not difficult to convert and build your own electric car.  Just think- no more fossil fuel expense ever again. You can also get a professional to build an electric car for you, but it would cost about $4000 minimum.  Doing your own EV conversion can cost you just a few hundred dollars, if you've already got the donor car.

So, how do you start to build your own electric car?

Read a lot of manuals and articles about car conversion, maybe you'll get some good tips and advise you can use.  Then, you'll need a place big enough to work - home garage, shop, barn or even your driveway.  Look for a reliable helper, maybe a friend or a family member.  Prepare common tools necessary - saw, wrenches, etc.  Next, you need detailed plans of the conversion process.

The 'Donor' Car

You will need a vehicle to convert. Small cars or small trucks work best.  There a lot of second-hand cars that one can buy inexpensively.  Sometimes, when the motor is out, you can even get it for free. This is perfect because you're going to take out the motor anyway.   The trick is to find a car that's lightweight but has large enough storage for the batteries.  You will need around 20 batteries to reach optimum range with your electric car, which means battery placement is very critical in this process.

Converting a vehicle to electric is about balancing weight to its carrying capacity. There are a lot of places in the car to put batteries - especially once you've removed the gas engine and it's related components.  By maximizing the space this way, you can carry a good load whether passengers or cargo.  Also, there are free sources of electric motors and batteries which can really keep the cost down.  Conversion projects can be completed in just a week or two.  Electric vehicles can travel over 50 mph and have a range of 200 miles between charges. Electric cars are not slow as some may think.  And the acceleration is just amazing.

Fuel prices have been extremely unstable in the past few years.  Gas prices may be somewhat down now, but they WILL rise.  Did you know that prices for gas are expected to increase to over $7/gallon next year?  It's time you take action to help in meeting this pending economic crisis.
