This VW to EV kit is a 96 volt kit from Rebirth Auto. It is used to convert an air cooled VW or Porsche to total battery power (EV). The kit makes converting any air-cooled VW to an electric vehicle (EV) quite systematic, including everything necessary to complete the job. The only thing else required is the volkswagen donor car for the conversion.

These EV Beetles can drive 60MPH (in theory, 70mph) for a range of 25 to 35 miles depending on your driving.

The Kit:

From marine duty electrical hardware, to top quality maintenance-free AGM batteries (that WAY outperform Deep Cycle Optima Batteries), to an industry recognized series wound DC motor, controller, dc to dc converter, and on-board six-step AGM battery charger, to a custom designed world class fully assembled motor adapter (that actually contains both a thrust and radial bearing to prevent the clutch actuation from ruining your motor bearings), and ending with a cutting-edge battery monitoring system to ensure maximum battery life.

This kit uses the existing transaxle. Just slip the motor-adapter-clutch assembly (pre-assembled for your convenience) where the gas engine once was (four bolts).

The Adapter Assembly is computer designed and CNC machined from billet 6061-t6 aircraft aluminium for perfect fit and alignment. The adapter's coupling (made of 1040 steel) runs on its own thrust and radial bearings to remove any stress from the motor bearings. These innovations are not seen yet in the EV industry, yet are very important.

Beware of kits that remove the clutch from the powertrain and hard couple the motor to the transmission input shaft. This not only makes it impossible to shift gears (unless you stopped), but if shifting on the fly it will likely ruin the gear synchros.
