Why did you use wet cell batteries? You should use the sealed batteries or jell deep cycle.
For those who want to know where you can buy parts………
You can find all the electrical supplies you need for an electric car conversion at you local forklift company. such as Raymond, Clark, Cat. FYI

In Oregon, it rains alot, so around here, I sure wouldn't want an Electric Motor exposed like that. I think most of the Conversions I've seen here bolt/weld a metal box onto a sturdy frame before putting the motor in.
Gas vent a good idea, IMO, tho I don't think I've heard heard concerns about that from EV drivers. Thanx for uploading the video.

Hi-torque electric. Jim Husted made it for me. He is in Redmond Oregon. Give him a call if you are interested in getting one.

i sed one from wilderness ev, but I'm not sure I'd go with that one again. It was made from steel, and most good ones are aluminum. Mine also turned out to be pretty warped. Its probably the smae as the bug, its just the hole mounting pattern could be different. My plate had to be re-drilled to match with my trannys bolts.

Great Job! I am about to convert a '74 Bay Window to 9" ADC. Whose adaptor plate did you use? Is the same adaptor used on the bus as well as the bug?

Lithium may be better but they are too expensive for me, and with so few home brew users doign it there is little support on how to get it working.

6V gets you more range and longer battery life than 12 v batteries!

6v are a must if you want any range, they also lay longer, by years, than 12v or 8v batteries. So 6v gives you longevity and range but are heavier. More lead equals more range! Lithium is still not within my price range. As far as costs go, batteries are aboutt 2 grand and running costs are abot 3 cents per mile. Cheers!

Dude, we are on the same page. I've been looking for a post 71 bus for a conversion for a couple of months now. I want an EV and like you, have a bunch of kids. Question… Why 6 volts instead of 12?

hi, great conversion. is it better to use Lithium ion battery or the battery they use in hybrid car? also how much do you spent on charging? and how often do you have to replace the battery, what is the maintence cost if any? i'm looking to convert a car too thanks

Nicola Tesla's car used a battery switching trick which makes the batteries self charging. Google "Tesla Switch", and positive results and replications are found on overunity website.

Out bloody rageous! (to quote a Soft Machine song) I had an old Samba that died 25 years ago…the engine blew but the rest of the bus was tight. Sheesh…I could have converted it to an EV! Oh well, hey! I have a '78 Datsun 620 EV on the way/can go freeway speeds/has a range of about 30mpc Coming 10/15/08 can't wait! Cost about $6,500 to get it converted, tho' – Worth it to me!

Hi: I saw your bus go by a couple weeks ago and luckily now have found your video! I think it is destiny. I have a 1958 bus and want to convert it to electric. I am in North Portland. Any chance you can start me in the right direction? Thanks!! Rob
