Electric VW Bus Part 1

Stupid WMG...who likes them? yeah, nobody. I'm workin on gettin a new song. So, here's my 1974 Volkswagen Bus. I spent my whole life savings, a whopping 0, on this beast. It was my 13th birthday present to myself. When I got it, the motor was sitting between the front seats and was in pretty bad shape. That's when I decided, mostly because of the shot motor, and because I was a stupid teenager, to convert it into an electric vehicle. The project went slowly until high school, and I made the mistake of not taking very many pictures in the beginning, but here it is. It's turning out very well, despite being done on a high schoolers budget. More on the actual conversion will come in the future. YAY!!!

Oh wow! What a project! Congratulations…from a Datsun EV owner and the owner of a couple spliity VW buses. I figure that a single cab would be a good candidate for an EV conversion–all the components in the treasure chest area & a good low center of gravity. Of course betles/bugs can zip around nice on seven/eight flooded lead-acid car typr batteries on around 72 volts

what kind of electric motor is that and where can I find all the parts to connect it to the tranny?

i'm using a 144 volt dc motor that i bought from EVA (electric vehicles of america). i built the components to connect the motor to the tranny. i used the original clutch, but took out all the friction material. i made the adapter out of aluminum and bolted the clutch plate to that which connects to the tranny. then i keyed the motor shaft to the adapter. it's a direct drive system.
hope that helps
